LaurenHi there! My name is Lauren, and I am originally from New York City. I am so happy to be a peer educator for YouthResource. I go to college in Massachusetts, where I am studying descriptions of the female body in literature and creative writing, and how that all applies to social justice. I also work with the Civil Liberties and Public Policy Program (CLPP), which organizes a reproductive justice conference and an event for the National Day of Action every year. I was an intern at the Pro-Choice Public Education Project in New York two years ago, which further broadened my outlook on social justice and women's rights.

Being involved with these organizations has shown me that all social justice issues are inherently connected, from GLBTQ issues to immigrants and workers rights. If you'll excuse the pun, everyone has a focus of choice, and mine is reproductive rights. I am very interested in reproductive health and well-being. Recently, one of my biggest projects has been getting certified as a Gynecological Teaching Associate, or GTA, to teach medical students how to do comprehensive breast and pelvic exams. This has made me much more aware of the issues concerning the queer community and the medical community. On top of that, reproductive rights and health care very closely links with GLBTQ issues, although the issues are sometimes looked at as two different things.

In high school, I had always considered myself an ally, although I felt confused about my own sexuality. Because I had the support and open-mindedness of my friends and colleagues, I was able to confront my questions of bisexuality clearly and calmly by the time I came to college. I understand how important it is to have the support of people around you. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have!
