Frequently Asked Questions

Advocates for Youth's abstinence-only question was the fifth topic addressed during the Netroots Nation's "Ask the Speaker" with Speaker Nancy Pelosi
(D-CA). Speaker Pelosi was surprisingly blunt about the dangers posed by abstinence-only programs and the fact that they are nothing more than a right-wing program to prey on our children.

Over 150 questions were submitted, including questions on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), Iraq, impeachment, and the economy. Because of your efforts, the abstinence-only question was one of the top vote getters!

It was great to see the issue of abstinence-only funding addressed so prominently at Netroots Nation and to have Speaker Pelosi reiterate her support for ending these programs. We think her very public words will be another helpful tool as we work to end funding for abstinence-only programs.

Was there an interesting or troubling story about GLBTQ issues in your local news? If the mainstream media is missing news that affects us, we want to know - email angel@mail.advocatesforyouth.net.

We also urge you to comment on entries - tell us what you think about what’s going on out there! To start with, we pose a question: What is the most important issue facing GLBTQ youth today? Leave an answer in comments!

We are very excited to get the YR blog off the ground. We can’t wait to hear from you, and we want to keep the conversation going. So make sure you keep checking back – or just subscribe to the RSS feed. Thanks and see you at the YouthResource blog!

Masturbation:
What's so Wrong with It?

For some it is an enjoyable pastime; for others it is completely forbidden. This topic may make you turn red, fall out and crack up with laughter, or it just might make you utterly uncomfortable.
